The 54th Deadline: Life is a series of chances to achieve something by a given point. You might very well miss out on opportunities if you are not careful. However, I firmly believe that God gives us plenty of means to find our way, even if we mess up here and there. After all, life demands deadlines. Try and try again until your goals and dreams are realized. Strive to finish on a successful note with whatever you set out to do. Always.

Opponents in life are necessary. The best things in the world stem from competition. To the victor go the spoils, after all.

An opponent here. An opponent there. 

Is it wrong for me to think of anyone who gets in my way as an opponent? Am I justified in thinking of them as a literal obstacle to where I want to be?

Deep down, I just see this as how the world works. It’s a constant series of winners and losers, and to get ahead you need to make sure you’re the one who bests your given opponent.

Anyone who thinks that there is plenty to go around for everyone, that each and every individual out there is entitled to the “grand prize” for merely participating in life are simply naive. There are no consolation trophies for just showing up.

Yes, NAIVE. I cannot emphasize this word enough.

I should know. I was pathetically naive at one point. So naive, in fact, that I almost lost it all when push really came to shove me down for the count.

But I survived. One may suffer defeat here and there, but the pursuit of victory keeps me going constantly. It drives me, it motivates me and it ensures I never want to give up, even when the odds become even more stacked against my favor.

As I continue to improve myself gradually, I begin to unravel layers within my soul: I am a pissed off individual. In a nutshell, I have a lot of anger built up from over the years.

So much of these burning, volatile feelings boil each day, simmering inside me as I try to figure it all out. Sure, there is plenty to be happy about compared to what I was experiencing during my worst.

I am healthier and all that good stuff, but all of the happiness doesn’t overlook the fact that I have a sense of looming ire tucked away, just waiting to be let out.

A desire to convert this anger into fuel against my future, would-be opponents grows stronger every day. 

It sounds harsh, but no one out there just casually prances into the winner’s circle without knocking a few others out of the way.

You either stomp the competition, or you’ll end up trampled on the ground. 

I just grew extremely weary of looking up toward the finish line for the last time instead of crossing it myself.
